# Police Enter a Flooded Michigan Home — What They Find Inside Leaves Officers Horrified

**FLINT TOWNSHIP, MICHIGAN —** A concerned neighbor noticed something unusual inside a home. Water appeared to be flooding the rooms, packages were piling up, and a small child had been seen near a window.

When police arrived to conduct a welfare check, they had no idea how disturbing the situation would become.

Behind the door, officers discovered a home filled with standing water, garbage, dirty diapers, and human waste.

Even more alarming, two young boys were inside without a parent or guardian present.

One child was reportedly found without clothing. Another was discovered in a filthy bedroom area. Officers later described finding one of the children eating raw ground beef.

The children were unable to communicate clearly with police.

What began as a routine welfare check became an urgent rescue operation, followed by a criminal investigation into allegations of child abandonment and abuse.

## PART 1 — A Neighbor’s Call Leads Police to a House Full of Water

### Something Was Wrong Inside the Home

The bodycam footage opens with Flint Township officers examining a residence where water can be seen on the floors.

At first, they are uncertain whether anyone is inside.

They look through the windows and notice trash, packages, and signs of extensive water damage.

One officer points out standing water in the kitchen.

Another wonders whether a pipe has burst.

The furnace appears to be running, but there is no obvious response from anyone inside.

As the officers continue checking the property, they notice something else.

A couch appears to be positioned near a door.

Dirty diapers are visible.

Water is spread throughout the interior.

The condition of the home raises increasingly serious concerns.

### A Neighbor Reports Seeing a Child

Officers speak with the person who contacted authorities.

The neighbor explains that a small child had been visible through a window.

The child reportedly had a sippy cup and appeared to be moving near the curtain.

The caller had also heard sounds that suggested someone might be inside.

The neighbor points officers toward the window.

Police notice what appear to be handprints on the glass.

At this stage, officers still do not know how many people are inside or whether any adult is present.

They also cannot determine how long the apparent water leak has been occurring.

### Police Discover an Open Door

As officers investigate further, they find an opening that allows them to enter the residence.

Inside, conditions are worse than expected.

Water is running from a sink.

The floor is flooded.

The home is cluttered with trash and other material.

Officers announce their presence and begin searching for occupants.

Then one of them spots a child.

“There’s a little kid.”

Moments later, another child is discovered.

The situation changes immediately.

Police are no longer simply investigating property damage.

They are trying to rescue two vulnerable children from a potentially hazardous environment.

### Two Young Boys Found Inside

Officers locate both children in different areas of the residence.

The boys appear frightened and are not communicating normally with the responding officers.

One is found without clothing.

The other is discovered in extremely unsanitary surroundings.

The officers begin guiding them out of the home.

They call for blankets and request an ambulance.

The children need warmth, medical evaluation, and a safe place to stay.

But the officers still have an urgent question.

**Where are their parents?**

## PART 2 — Officers Rescue the Children as the Full Horror of the Home Becomes Clear

### A Desperate Effort to Protect the Boys

At approximately 3:56 in the video, officers report finding two children.

One is completely naked, while the other is covered in filth.

Police request blankets to cover them and ask for emergency medical personnel.

The officers speak gently to the boys.

They try to reassure them that they are safe.

One officer asks where their mother and father are.

There is no clear answer.

The children are estimated by responding officers to be very young.

The video later identifies them as brothers aged three and five.

### Officers Move the Children Into Warm Police Vehicles

The responding officers guide the boys outside.

They try to keep them calm.

One officer encourages a child to walk toward him.

Another prepares a warm police vehicle.

The boys appear unable or unwilling to explain what happened.

Officers do not yet know whether their silence is related to fear, developmental needs, or another cause.

Later narration describes both children as having special needs.

### Small Acts of Kindness During the Rescue

One of the most emotional moments in the footage occurs after the children are brought to safety.

An officer offers them small toy animals.

He allows one boy to choose a toy and encourages him to share another with his brother.

The gesture is simple.

But after the disturbing conditions inside the home, it provides a moment of comfort.

The officers continue speaking calmly to the children while waiting for medical assistance.

### The House Is Worse Than Officers Initially Realized

Police return inside to examine the residence.

They describe water running from multiple sinks.

The floors are flooded.

Dirty diapers and waste are spread throughout the rooms.

One officer describes the interior as a nightmare.

Another reports finding a child eating raw ground beef.

The officers also discuss whether one of the children may have been chewing on a bottle of soap.

These observations raise concerns about the children’s access to safe food, supervision, and basic sanitation.

### Police Search for More Children

The officers do not assume that the two boys are the only occupants.

They search additional rooms, check behind furniture, and examine areas where another child might be hiding.

At one point, they lift a mattress to check underneath it.

The search is important because the condition of the home makes it difficult to see every possible hiding place.

Police want to ensure that no other child remains trapped or unattended.

### Investigators Begin Looking for the Responsible Adult

The officers speak with neighbors and try to identify who lives at the property.

One neighbor says they had seen teenagers coming and going but had not noticed a vehicle parked there for some time.

Officers find packages bearing the name Crystal.

They begin checking possible occupancy information and emergency contacts.

They also consider whether a responsible adult might be hospitalized or in custody.

At this stage, the transcript does not establish exactly how long the boys had been alone.

However, officers express concern that they may have been without proper supervision for several days.

### A Neighbor’s Decision May Have Saved Their Lives

As the children are moved toward medical care, officers thank the person who called for help.

One officer tells the caller that the report may have saved the boys’ lives.

The video later attributes a similar message to a Flint Township Police Department Facebook post.

Without the neighbor’s concern, the children might have remained inside the hazardous home for an unknown period.

The rescue was successful.

But investigators now needed to determine who had left the children there and why.

## PART 3 — Mother Arrested, Seven Felony Charges, and a Court Case Awaiting Sentencing

### Police Locate the Children’s Mother

According to the video’s case summary, investigators eventually located the boys’ mother.

She is identified as **Crystal Rose Farmer, 25**.

The footage shows officers informing her that she is being taken into custody in connection with the conditions in which the children were found.

An officer explains that investigators had encountered an exceptionally serious situation.

The home was flooded.

The children had been found without an adult present.

And police believed there was sufficient cause to investigate possible child abuse and neglect.

Farmer was arrested while investigators continued gathering evidence.

### The Boys Were Reportedly Left Alone for Days

The closing narration states that the children had apparently been abandoned for several days.

The transcript does not establish an exact duration.

The video also describes a police department statement criticizing the mother’s decision to leave the children without adequate care.

However, the precise circumstances of her absence are not fully established in the supplied transcript.

What officers directly observed was a home with extensive water damage, unsanitary conditions, and two young children who needed immediate assistance.

### The Children Had Special Needs

The video’s case summary identifies the rescued children as boys aged three and five.

It states that both were determined to have special needs.

This detail is important because children with developmental or communication difficulties may require additional supervision and support.

They may also have greater difficulty seeking help or explaining an emergency.

The video says the boys were placed in a safe environment and were expected to recover physically.

Their longer-term medical and developmental outcomes are not established by the transcript.

### Seven Felony Charges Reportedly Filed

According to the video narration, Farmer faced seven felony counts:

– Two counts of child abandonment.
– Two counts of second-degree child abuse.
– Two counts of second-degree child abuse in the presence of another child.
– One count of lying to a peace officer during a violent crime investigation.

Her bond was reportedly set at $64,000.

These are the charges as described in the supplied video, rather than independently verified court records.

### Competency Evaluation

Following her arrest, Farmer reportedly underwent a competency evaluation.

The purpose was to determine whether she was mentally capable of understanding the proceedings and participating in her defense.

The video states that a court found her competent in May 2026.

A competency determination addresses a defendant’s ability to participate in legal proceedings.

It does not, by itself, determine guilt or innocence.

### A Guilty Plea in September 2026

According to the narration, court records indicated that Farmer pleaded guilty to all seven felony counts on September 21, 2026.

The video also discusses a request for a **Cobbs evaluation**, a Michigan procedure involving a judge’s preliminary assessment of a possible sentence.

The narration states that the parties agreed to certain sentencing conditions.

It reports that Farmer acknowledged a habitual-offender sentencing enhancement and that consecutive sentencing would not be applied under the described agreement.

The video characterizes the maximum exposure under that arrangement as 15 years.

However, the precise terms of the plea and sentencing agreement have not been independently verified for this article.

### Sentencing Scheduled for October 19, 2026

The video states that sentencing was expected to take place on **October 19, 2026**.

It also notes that a probationary sentence remained legally possible.

As of the supplied account, the judge had not yet announced a final sentence.

Therefore, it would be inaccurate to claim that Farmer had already received a particular prison term.

### A Rescue That Began With One Phone Call

The case began when a neighbor noticed a child near a window and became concerned about conditions inside the home.

Officers arrived expecting to conduct a welfare check.

Instead, they found two young boys in a flooded, filthy residence.

The children were brought outside, wrapped in blankets, given comfort items, and evaluated for medical care.

Investigators later located their mother and pursued a criminal case.

The footage illustrates how a welfare check can become a life-saving intervention.

It also shows the importance of reporting credible concerns about children who may be in danger.

**Two young boys were rescued. A mother faced seven felony counts. And the final sentencing decision remained ahead.**

## LEGAL ANALYSIS — Child Abandonment, Police Welfare Checks, and Michigan Criminal Law

### 1. Why Police Could Investigate the Home

Police were responding to concerns about a child and unusual conditions at the residence.

The caller had reportedly seen a young child and heard sounds from inside.

Officers also observed standing water and signs of possible danger.

These circumstances were relevant to their assessment of whether someone inside needed immediate assistance.

### 2. The Emergency-Aid Exception

The Fourth Amendment generally protects the home against unreasonable government entry.

However, officers may enter without a warrant when objectively reasonable circumstances establish an emergency requiring immediate assistance.

A potential threat to the safety of young children can be relevant to that analysis.

Whether a particular entry was lawful depends on the facts and circumstances, not simply on an officer describing it as a welfare check.

### 3. What Constitutes Child Abandonment?

Child abandonment laws address situations in which a person responsible for a child leaves that child without legally required care or protection.

The exact elements depend on the applicable statute.

Investigators may examine the child’s age, supervision, access to necessities, duration of absence, and the circumstances of the responsible adult.

The video reports that the boys were left without appropriate supervision, but it does not establish every detail of the timeline.

### 4. Why the Home’s Condition Matters

Standing water, human waste, dirty diapers, and unsafe food conditions can create serious risks for young children.

Potential hazards include injury, infection, exposure to contaminated material, and inability to obtain safe food or water.

These conditions may be relevant to a child abuse or neglect investigation.

However, criminal responsibility must still be established through the applicable legal elements and evidence.

### 5. Second-Degree Child Abuse Under Michigan Law

Michigan recognizes different degrees of child abuse.

Second-degree child abuse can involve specified conduct or omissions that create a serious risk of harm or otherwise meet the statutory requirements.

The exact mental state and factual elements matter.

The fact that children were found in a dangerous environment is highly significant, but a legal determination must be based on the charged statutory elements.

### 6. The Significance of the Children’s Ages

The boys were reportedly three and five years old.

Children of those ages are generally unable to protect themselves from many household hazards.

They depend on responsible adults for supervision, sanitation, food, and emergency assistance.

Their young ages were therefore important to the investigation.

### 7. Additional Concerns for Children With Special Needs

The video reports that both boys had special needs.

Children with developmental or communication difficulties may require individualized care.

Their ability to recognize danger, communicate distress, or seek assistance may differ.

Those circumstances can be relevant to understanding the risks created by inadequate supervision.

### 8. Why Police Requested Medical Care

Officers requested an ambulance after finding the children.

Medical professionals can assess immediate injuries, dehydration, exposure, possible infections, and other health concerns.

The transcript does not provide comprehensive medical findings.

It states that the boys were expected to recover physically.

That should not be interpreted as proof that no lasting effects occurred.

### 9. The Role of Child Protective Services

Child Protective Services may become involved when authorities identify suspected abuse or neglect.

Its responsibilities can include evaluating safety, coordinating temporary care, and investigating family circumstances.

Child protection proceedings and criminal prosecutions serve different purposes.

The transcript refers to CPS involvement but does not provide a complete account of subsequent custody decisions.

### 10. Why Investigators Searched the Entire Residence

After finding the boys, officers searched for other possible occupants.

This was important because additional children or vulnerable people might have been present.

The officers examined bedrooms and concealed areas.

The scope and legal basis of any continued search would depend on the circumstances and applicable constitutional rules.

### 11. Why Witness Statements Matter

The neighbor’s observations helped officers establish why the welfare check was necessary.

Witnesses may also provide information about when adults were last seen, whether children appeared unattended, and how long unusual conditions persisted.

Such statements must be assessed for reliability and corroborated where appropriate.

### 12. The Legal Importance of a Competency Evaluation

Competency concerns a defendant’s present ability to understand court proceedings and assist in a defense.

It is separate from criminal responsibility at the time of the alleged offense.

The video reports that Farmer was found competent in May 2026.

That finding permitted the criminal proceedings to continue, according to the narration.

### 13. What a Guilty Plea Means

A guilty plea is a formal admission to a criminal charge when accepted through the required court procedures.

The video reports that Farmer pleaded guilty to seven felony counts in September 2026.

A guilty plea and a final sentence are separate procedural events.

The transcript states that sentencing was still scheduled for a later date.

### 14. What Is a Cobbs Evaluation?

In Michigan, a Cobbs evaluation involves a judge providing a preliminary sentencing assessment under the applicable legal framework.

A defendant may consider that assessment when deciding whether to plead guilty.

The procedure can affect what happens if the court later determines that a more severe sentence is appropriate.

The precise rights and consequences depend on the court’s statements and the plea record.

### 15. What Is a Habitual-Offender Enhancement?

Michigan law permits enhanced sentencing in certain circumstances involving qualifying prior convictions.

The enhancement depends on statutory requirements and the defendant’s criminal history.

The video reports that Farmer acknowledged an enhancement.

However, the complete legal basis and exact terms are not provided in the transcript.

### 16. Consecutive Versus Concurrent Sentencing

When a defendant is sentenced for multiple offenses, sentences may sometimes run concurrently or consecutively.

Concurrent sentences generally overlap.

Consecutive sentences are served one after another.

The video states that the parties agreed not to apply consecutive sentencing under the described arrangement.

The final sentencing order would be necessary to confirm how the court applied that agreement.

### 17. Why the Reported 15-Year Maximum Needs Context

The narration characterizes the agreed sentencing exposure as a maximum of 15 years.

That statement appears to describe the specific arrangement discussed in the video.

It should not be treated as a general statement that all defendants convicted of similar Michigan offenses face the same maximum sentence.

The actual sentence depends on the applicable statutes, plea terms, guidelines, and judicial decision.

### 18. Why Sentencing Had Not Yet Been Determined

Although the video reports a guilty plea, sentencing was scheduled for October 19, 2026.

The judge’s final decision was therefore still pending in the supplied account.

Until that hearing occurs and the result is verified, reporting should not state that a specific prison term was imposed.

### 19. The Importance of the 911 Caller

The police department statement described in the video credits the caller with helping save the children.

A concerned neighbor can play an important role in identifying potential danger.

Reports should be based on genuine observations rather than speculation.

In this case, the reported sighting of a child and the unusual conditions at the residence prompted police to investigate.

### 20. The Broader Lessons of the Case

The Flint Township incident illustrates several important principles.

Children who are too young or unable to communicate effectively may depend entirely on others to recognize danger.

Police welfare checks can reveal urgent safety concerns.

Medical care and child protection services may be needed immediately.

And criminal investigations must distinguish between what officers directly observed, what witnesses reported, and what a court has formally established.

The most important outcome described in the video is that both boys were removed from the dangerous environment and placed in safety.
